Graduation day

The puppies graduated out of the baby pool and got their first taste of solid food last week.

It’s still important that they nurse, so I’m splitting them up to make it easier on Lily. I start the smaller ones first, then add the bigs who seem to be taking to the solid food better.

I’m also trimming toenails every other day so that’s more comfortable on Lily’s tender belly.

Changing the blankets often helps too. Most mama dogs do not like to lie down on soiled blankets. The pups are getting the hang of stepping away from their sleeping area before they pee, but sometimes those steps don’t take them far enough off of the blanket and onto the pee pad.

All of that means I’m tending to their needs about every 3 hours or so, even at night.

Every litter is different, every litter needs a little something different. I learn from each litter and carry that forward to the next.

Yes I’m tired. But this stage will pass and they’ll be into something new very soon.
